PPP1R37 is a regulatory subunit that modulates the activity and specificity of protein phosphatase 1 (PP1), a key enzyme involved in dephosphorylation of serine/threonine residues on target proteins. PPP1R37 regulates pathways controlling cellular processes such as cell adhesion, migration, and cytoskeletal organization by targeting PP1 to substrates like focal adhesion proteins and cytoskeletal regulators. It plays a role in maintaining cellular homeostasis and responding to mechanical or stress signals through its modulation of phosphatase activity. PPP1R37 is expressed in various tissues, including muscle and connective tissues, where it participates in extracellular matrix remodeling and cellular mechanotransduction. Dysregulation of PPP1R37 is linked to pathological conditions such as fibrosis, cancer, and impaired tissue repair due to abnormal phosphatase activity and disrupted cellular signaling.
