LRRC27 is a poorly understood protein predominantly expressed in neural and reproductive tissues bioinformatics analyses suggest its involvement in synaptic signaling and cellular adhesion particularly in processes requiring structural remodeling such as neurogenesis and spermatogenesis its expression in the central nervous system has been linked to the regulation of synaptic plasticity and neurotransmission where it may influence cognitive processes such as learning and memory studies have proposed its potential role in maintaining the integrity of synaptic junctions and modulating neural connectivity although experimental evidence is limited genetic studies have associated LRRC27 variants with susceptibility to neuropsychiatric disorders such as autism spectrum disorders and schizophrenia further investigation is needed to understand its molecular functions and interactions which could reveal insights into its role in neuronal and reproductive health
