Descripción

Interferon Alpha 2 (IFNA2) is one of the most studied type I interferons due to its significant role in antiviral defense and its clinical applications. Similar to IFNA1, IFNA2 is secreted by immune cells in response to viral infections and engages IFNAR to activate antiviral and immune-modulating pathways. IFNA2 has been extensively utilized in therapeutic settings, including recombinant IFNA2 (e.g., interferon-alpha-2a and -2b) for the treatment of viral hepatitis, certain cancers like melanoma, and hematologic malignancies. It enhances the immune system's ability to combat infections and tumors by promoting immune cell activation, increasing antigen presentation, and inducing apoptosis in infected or malignant cells. However, its use is often associated with side effects like flu-like symptoms and immune dysregulation, necessitating careful administration and monitoring.
