Descripción
GAB1 is an adaptor protein involved in signal transduction downstream of receptor tyrosine kinases, such as EGFR, FGFR, and MET. It serves as a scaffold for proteins like PI3K, SHP2, and PLCγ, modulating pathways including PI3K/Akt, MAPK/ERK, and JAK/STAT. GAB1 is essential for processes like cell growth, survival, migration, and differentiation, particularly during embryonic development and organogenesis. It plays a key role in epithelial tissue morphogenesis, angiogenesis, and liver regeneration. Dysregulation of GAB1 contributes to cancer progression by enhancing cell proliferation, survival, and metastasis, particularly in liver, breast, and gastric cancers. Knockout models reveal developmental defects in the heart, liver, and placenta, demonstrating its importance in embryonic viability and tissue formation.

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the IRS1-like multisubstrate docking protein family. It is an important mediator of branching tubulogenesis and plays a central role in cellular growth response, transformation and apoptosis. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
