Descripción
DDB1 and CUL4 associated factor 8 (DCAF8) acts as a substrate receptor for the CUL4-DDB1 E3 ubiquitin ligase complex and is involved in regulating protein degradation processes that maintain cellular homeostasis. DCAF8 is characterized by its WD40 repeat domains, which allow it to specifically bind to target substrates and facilitate their ubiquitination. Although its specific substrates are not yet fully defined, DCAF8 is thought to play a role in regulating the cell cycle and DNA damage responses, contributing to genomic stability. Its expression is ubiquitous, with enhanced activity in tissues requiring tight regulation of proteostasis. Dysfunction of DCAF8 has been linked to impaired ubiquitin-mediated protein degradation, which can lead to cellular stress and contribute to disease. Ongoing studies aim to clarify its role in transcriptional regulation and signaling pathways.
