Descripción
ANO4, also known as TMEM16D, is a member of the anoctamin family of calcium-activated chloride channels (CaCCs) and phospholipid scramblases. ANO4 is predominantly expressed in the nervous system, including the brain, where it regulates neuronal excitability and calcium signaling. It is believed to play a role in modulating synaptic transmission and neuronal activity, particularly in pathways controlling motor coordination and cognitive functions. Dysregulation of ANO4 has been associated with neurological disorders, such as movement abnormalities and neurodegenerative diseases, due to its role in maintaining proper neuronal signaling. Emerging evidence also suggests a role for ANO4 in cell proliferation and cancer progression, where altered calcium homeostasis and ion transport contribute to tumor development.
