Descripción
ANKRD11 is a multifunctional protein that interacts with histone deacetylases (HDACs) to regulate histone acetylation, thereby influencing chromatin structure and gene expression. It plays a critical role in neural development, acting as a co-regulator of transcription factors that control neuronal differentiation and synaptic function. Mutations in ANKRD11 are linked to KBG syndrome, a rare neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by intellectual disability, distinct craniofacial features, and skeletal anomalies. ANKRD11 has also been implicated in autism spectrum disorders and cancer progression, where it contributes to altered cell growth, differentiation, and survival. Its role in epigenetic regulation and transcriptional modulation makes ANKRD11 essential for proper cellular function, particularly in the nervous system and during embryonic development.
