Background

Aly/REF Export Factor 2 (ALYREF2) is a nuclear protein involved in mRNA processing and nuclear export. It plays a critical role in coupling transcription with mRNA export by interacting with the exon-junction complex (EJC) and nuclear export factors. ALYREF2 facilitates the recruitment of export factors such as TAP/NXF1 to processed mRNA, ensuring efficient transport of mRNA from the nucleus to the cytoplasm for translation. This protein is essential for maintaining gene expression homeostasis and cellular function. Dysregulation of ALYREF2 has been linked to aberrant mRNA export and diseases such as cancer, where altered expression levels can contribute to tumor progression by impacting oncogene and tumor suppressor gene expression. Its role in mRNA export makes ALYREF2 a potential target for therapeutic intervention aimed at modulating gene expression in pathological contexts.
