Descripción
SERPINF2, also known as alpha-2 antiplasmin (A2AP), is a crucial member of the serpin (serine protease inhibitor) family. It plays a vital role in regulating the fibrinolytic system by inhibiting plasmin, the enzyme responsible for breaking down fibrin clots. As part of the serpin superfamily, SERPINF2 helps to maintain hemostasis by preventing excessive clot breakdown, ensuring that clots remain stable during wound healing and tissue repair. First characterized in the 1970s, SERPINF2 has since been extensively studied for its role in clot stabilization and its involvement in various bleeding disorders and thrombotic conditions. It is primarily synthesized in the liver and circulates in the plasma, where it acts as a major inhibitor of fibrinolysis.
