Descripción
GRM8, or mGluR8, is a Group III metabotropic glutamate receptor expressed predominantly in the hippocampus, thalamus, and olfactory bulb, where it functions as a presynaptic receptor to inhibit glutamate release. GRM8 couples to Gi/o proteins, suppressing adenylate cyclase activity and cAMP production, thereby regulating synaptic transmission and reducing excitotoxicity. GRM8 plays a role in modulating synaptic plasticity, sensory processing, and neuroprotection. Dysregulation of GRM8 is associated with neurological disorders, including epilepsy, chronic pain, and anxiety, where impaired glutamate regulation contributes to neuronal hyperexcitability. GRM8 also exhibits potential in neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease, where its activation provides neuroprotective effects. Positive allosteric modulators (PAMs) and selective agonists of GRM8 are being developed to restore glutamatergic balance and protect against excitotoxic damage, positioning it as a promising therapeutic target for epilepsy, pain management, and neurodegenerative disorders.

Metabotropic Glutamate Receptor 8 (GRM8) Antibody
GRM8 Antibody is a Rabbit Polyclonal antibody against GRM8. L-glutamate is the major excitatory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system and activates both ionotropic and metabotropic glutamate receptors. Glutamatergic neurotransmission is involved in most aspects of normal brain function and can be perturbed in many neuropathologic conditions. The metabotropic glutamate receptors are a family of G protein-coupled receptors, that have been divided into 3 groups on the basis of sequence homology, putative signal transduction mechanisms, and pharmacologic properties. Group I includes GRM1 and GRM5 and these receptors have been shown to activate phospholipase C. Group II includes GRM2 and GRM3 while Group III includes GRM4, GRM6, GRM7 and GRM8. Group II and III receptors are linked to the inhibition of the cyclic AMP cascade but differ in their agonist selectivities. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described for this gene.
