Background

Macrophage Scavenger Receptor 1 (MSR1), also known as CD204, is a multifunctional receptor primarily expressed on macrophages and other cells of the mononuclear phagocyte system. MSR1 is a critical player in the immune system, where it recognizes and binds to various ligands, including modified lipoproteins, pathogens, and apoptotic cells, thereby aiding in host defense, tissue homeostasis, and inflammation.
