Descripción
Lysosome-associated membrane glycoprotein 1 (LAMP1) is a transmembrane protein located on the lysosomal membrane that plays a key role in lysosome integrity, autophagy, and cellular homeostasis LAMP1 is highly expressed in cells undergoing autophagy, where it contributes to lysosomal stability and fusion with autophagosomes for the degradation of cellular waste It is involved in lysosome exocytosis, which regulates plasma membrane repair, pathogen clearance, and cellular stress responses LAMP1 also serves as a marker for lysosomal activity and has been implicated in immune responses, particularly in natural killer (NK) cell-mediated cytotoxicity Dysregulation of LAMP1 expression has been observed in neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, where impaired lysosomal function leads to protein aggregation and cellular toxicity Additionally, LAMP1 overexpression is associated with cancer progression and metastasis, where it facilitates cellular invasion through lysosome-mediated extracellular matrix degradation Its role in maintaining lysosomal function underscores its importance in cellular health and disease pathology
