Lipopolysaccharides (LPS) are found in the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria.They are large molecules composed of three distinct sections: O-antigen or O-specific chain (chain of many simple sugars, capable of being recognized by the immune system).Core oligosaccharide (a small chain of simple sugars). Lipid A (two glucosamine molecules bound to many fatty acids) Lipid A, is responsible for the toxic and inflammatory properties of LPS. Lipid A is anchored to the cell membrane, while the rest of the LPS projects from the cell surface into the surrounding environment. However, once the bacteria dies, the lipid A is exposed and can cause damage

Los lipopolisacáridos (LPS) se encuentran en la membrana externa de las bacterias Gram-negativas. Son grandes moléculas compuestas por tres secciones distintas: antígeno O o cadena O específica (cadena de muchos azúcares simples, capaz de ser reconocida por el sistema inmunológico). .Núcleo de oligosacárido (una pequeña cadena de azúcares simples). El lípido A (dos moléculas de glucosamina unidas a muchos ácidos grasos) El lípido A, es responsable de las propiedades tóxicas e inflamatorias del LPS.
