Descripción

SERPINB1, also known as leukocyte elastase inhibitor or monocyte neutrophil elastase inhibitor, is a member of the serine protease inhibitor (SERPIN) family. The SERPIN superfamily is one of the largest and most diverse groups of protease inhibitors, playing a crucial role in regulating various physiological processes, including inflammation, apoptosis, and immune responses. Unlike many SERPINs that inhibit proteases through a suicide substrate-like mechanism involving the formation of a covalent complex, SERPINB1 acts primarily in the intracellular environment to protect cells from protease-mediated damage. SERPINB1 is encoded by the SERPINB1 gene located on chromosome 6p25 in humans. This gene belongs to the SERPINB clade, which is a subgroup of the SERPIN family predominantly found in the cytoplasm rather than being secreted
