Background

LRRC4C, or netrin-G ligand 4 (NGL-4), is a member of the leucine-rich repeat protein family involved in synaptic adhesion, axon guidance, and neural circuit formation. It binds to netrin-G proteins at synaptic junctions, facilitating the establishment and stabilization of excitatory synapses in the central nervous system. LRRC4C is highly expressed in the brain, particularly in regions responsible for cognitive and motor functions, where it regulates synaptic plasticity, neuronal migration, and dendritic spine development. Dysregulation of LRRC4C has been linked to neurodevelopmental disorders, such as autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and epilepsy, where disrupted synaptic organization and connectivity lead to impaired brain function.
