Description
This gene encodes a member of the F-box protein family which is characterized by an approximately 40 amino acid motif, the F-box. The F-box proteins constitute one of the four subunits of ubiquitin protein ligase complex called SCFs (SKP1-cullin-F-box), which function in phosphorylation-dependent ubiquitination. The F-box proteins are divided into 3 classes: Fbws containing WD-40 domains, Fbls containing leucine-rich repeats, and Fbxs containing either different protein-protein interaction modules or no recognizable motifs. The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the Fbls class and, in addition to an F-box, contains 9 tandem leucine-rich repeats. Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for this gene. Other variants may occur, but their full-length natures have not been characterized.

Descripción
FBXL9P is a pseudogene of the F-box and leucine-rich repeat protein family, which typically participates in protein degradation through the ubiquitin-proteasome system. F-box proteins act as substrate recognition components of SCF (Skp1-Cullin-F-box) E3 ubiquitin ligase complexes, tagging proteins for proteasomal degradation to regulate processes like cell cycle progression, signal transduction, and apoptosis. Although FBXL9P lacks protein-coding capacity, pseudogenes like FBXL9P can exert regulatory functions by influencing the expression of their parental genes or interacting with non-coding RNAs to modulate gene transcription and translation. FBXL9P may have roles in fine-tuning protein turnover and maintaining cellular homeostasis through indirect regulatory mechanisms. Dysregulation of pseudogenes, including FBXL9P, is increasingly recognized in cancers and metabolic diseases, where they contribute to altered protein regulation and signaling network disruptions. Further studies are needed to define its specific regulatory roles and impact on cellular processes.
