Descripción
TAS2R46 is part of the TAS2R family of receptors that are responsible for detecting bitter flavors. Expressed in taste cells, TAS2R46 is activated by particular bitter substances, triggering a signaling cascade that leads to the perception of bitterness. This receptor plays a role in protecting the body from ingesting harmful or toxic substances, as many bitter compounds are indicative of potentially harmful chemicals. TAS2R46 is involved in the body’s response to bitterness and may help regulate food choices and food aversions. Genetic variations in TAS2R46 influence the degree of bitterness an individual perceives, which in turn can affect food preferences. Understanding TAS2R46's function and its genetic variability can provide valuable insights into how individuals perceive bitter foods and how these perceptions influence dietary habits.
