ANKRD28 is a protein that contains ankyrin repeat domains, which mediate protein-protein interactions essential for cellular signaling and regulation. ANKRD28 is involved in signal transduction and protein scaffolding, where it interacts with components of protein phosphatase 6 (PP6) complexes, regulating cell cycle progression and DNA damage repair. It functions as a regulatory subunit for phosphatase activity, controlling dephosphorylation events critical for cellular processes such as cell growth and proliferation. Dysregulation of ANKRD28 has been associated with impaired cell cycle control and genomic instability, which are hallmarks of cancer progression.
