| Note | THIS PRODUCT IS FOR RESEARCH USE ONLY. NOT FOR USE IN DIAGNOSTIC, THERAPEUTIC OR COSMETIC PROCEDURES. NOT FOR HUMAN OR ANIMAL CONSUMPTION. To keep the original salt concentration, we recommend reconstituting to the original concentration prior to lyophilization (see Concentration) in ddH2O. If a lower concentration is required, dilute in 20 mM Tris, 150 mM NaCl, pH 8.0. If a higher concentration is required, the product can be reconstituted directly in 20 mM Tris, 150 mM NaCl, pH 8.0, though please note that this will change the overall salt concentration. The stock concentration should be between 0.1-1.0 mg/ml. Do not vortex. Concentration: Prior to lyophilization: 200 µg/ml |
Background
ALDH1A1 is a cytosolic enzyme primarily responsible for catalyzing the oxidation of retinaldehyde to retinoic acid, a biologically active metabolite of vitamin A that regulates gene expression via retinoic acid receptors (RARs). ALDH1A1 plays a pivotal role in embryonic development, cell differentiation, and tissue regeneration, particularly in the eyes, liver, and hematopoietic systems. It is a well-known marker for cancer stem cells (CSCs) in various tumors, including breast, lung, and prostate cancers, where its overexpression contributes to chemoresistance, metastasis, and tumor initiation. ALDH1A1 is also involved in detoxifying reactive aldehydes, such as 4-hydroxynonenal (4-HNE), providing protection against oxidative stress. Its role in maintaining stem cell populations and redox homeostasis highlights ALDH1A1 as a therapeutic target in oncology. Additionally, ALDH1A1 is implicated in alcohol metabolism and the development of alcohol-related liver diseases.
