Descripción
RXFP3 is a G protein-coupled receptor that is activated by relaxin-3, a member of the relaxin/insulin-like family. This receptor primarily couples to Gi proteins, leading to the inhibition of adenylate cyclase and reducing cAMP levels. RXFP3 is expressed in the central nervous system, particularly in regions such as the hypothalamus, where it plays a key role in regulating stress responses, appetite, and circadian rhythms. Activation of RXFP3 has been shown to influence feeding behavior, emotional responses, and neuroendocrine functions by modulating neurotransmitter release and neuronal excitability. Dysregulation of RXFP3 signaling is associated with disorders like anxiety, depression, and metabolic syndrome. As a therapeutic target, RXFP3 agonists could potentially be used to address stress-related conditions and appetite regulation, while antagonists may be useful in managing mood disorders and obesity.
