Background

RAB1C, member RAS oncogene family (pseudogene) (RAB1C) is a pseudogene that shares high sequence similarity with functional RAB1A and RAB1B genes, though it is generally considered nonfunctional in most cells Due to its genetic similarity to the active RAB1 genes, RAB1C may still contribute to cellular functions related to vesicular trafficking, although its role is not as well-defined as its active counterparts Some research suggests that RAB1C may have functional significance in certain conditions, such as during viral infections or in cells with aberrant gene expression However, because RAB1C is a pseudogene, its primary contribution to cellular function is minimal compared to RAB1A and RAB1B Its presence as a pseudogene may indicate evolutionary processes that have led to redundant or non-essential gene copies in certain cellular contexts
