Background

IGSF9B is a close homolog of IGSF9, with similar structural features, including Ig-like and fibronectin type III domains. It is expressed primarily in inhibitory synapses within the central nervous system (CNS). IGSF9B plays a crucial role in the organization and maintenance of inhibitory synapses, where it facilitates interactions between synaptic adhesion molecules and stabilizes the postsynaptic scaffold. IGSF9B contributes to GABAergic signaling, a key inhibitory pathway in the brain. Dysregulation of IGSF9B can lead to imbalanced excitatory-inhibitory signaling, which is implicated in epilepsy, schizophrenia, and other neuropsychiatric disorders. By modulating inhibitory synaptic strength and stability, IGSF9B plays a vital role in maintaining neuronal homeostasis and circuit function.
