Background
Meteorin-like protein (METRNL) shares structural similarity with Meteorin and is secreted primarily by adipose tissue and muscle, where it plays a role in energy metabolism and inflammation. METRNL has been identified as a myokine and adipokine that promotes thermogenesis in beige adipocytes by inducing the expression of uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1) and activating macrophages to secrete IL-4 and IL-13.
