Background

LIMS4 is a member of the LIM domain-containing protein family, characterized by its role in protein-protein interactions, which are essential for cell adhesion, migration, and signaling pathways. Although less well-studied compared to LIMS1 and LIMS2, LIMS4 is believed to participate in focal adhesion dynamics and actin cytoskeletal organization. The LIM domains allow LIMS4 to act as a scaffold protein, connecting integrin-linked signaling pathways with cytoskeletal rearrangement and mechanical force transduction. LIMS4 expression is found in specific tissues, including connective and muscular tissues, suggesting a role in structural tissue stability and cellular mechanotransduction. Dysregulation of LIMS4 has been associated with impaired tissue development and may contribute to pathologies like fibrosis and cancer. Emerging studies indicate it could influence cell migration and mechanical stress responses, but further research is required to elucidate its exact biological functions and molecular interactions.
