Background

Leucine-rich repeat, Ig-like and transmembrane domains 2 (LRIT2) is a member of the LRIT protein family, which is characterized by leucine-rich repeat (LRR) motifs and immunoglobulin-like domains, indicating a role in protein-protein interactions and signaling. LRIT2 is primarily expressed in neural tissues, particularly in the retina, where it is thought to contribute to synaptic organization and signal transduction in photoreceptor and retinal ganglion cells. It is believed to play a role in visual processing and may participate in maintaining synaptic stability and plasticity. Mutations in LRIT2 have been implicated in hereditary retinal dystrophies and other neurodevelopmental disorders, highlighting its importance in neuronal function and structure. Further research into its molecular mechanisms could provide insights into its contributions to visual and neural system disorders.
