LRRC37A2 is a paralog of LRRC37A with overlapping but distinct functions its expression is enriched in neuronal and immune cells where it is thought to play a role in modulating cellular responses to stress and maintaining intracellular signaling pathways studies suggest LRRC37A2 may participate in synaptic organization and neuroinflammation processes contributing to neural plasticity and immune homeostasis mutations or dysregulation of LRRC37A2 have been associated with neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease where it may influence the balance between pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory signaling within the central nervous system its interaction with other proteins involved in cytoskeletal organization and intracellular trafficking has also been proposed as a mechanism by which it affects cellular structure and function ongoing research is focused on uncovering its specific roles in brain health and its potential as a target for therapeutic interventions in neurodegenerative and inflammatory diseases
