Descripción

IL1F10, also known as IL-38, is a member of the IL-1 cytokine family that plays an emerging role in immune modulation and inflammation control. IL1F10 binds to the IL-36 receptor (IL1RL2) and acts as an anti-inflammatory cytokine by antagonizing IL-36 signaling pathways. It inhibits the activation of NF-κB and MAPK, thereby suppressing the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-6, TNF-α, and IL-17. IL1F10 is expressed in immune cells, epithelial cells, and barrier tissues, including the skin, lungs, and gastrointestinal tract, where it regulates inflammation and maintains tissue homeostasis. It has been shown to counteract the effects of IL-36 agonists in diseases like psoriasis, inflammatory bowel disease, and rheumatoid arthritis, highlighting its protective role in chronic inflammation. IL1F10 also contributes to limiting immune hyperactivation during infections and autoimmune responses. Knockdown or reduced expression of IL1F10 exacerbates inflammatory responses, increases cytokine production, and worsens tissue pathology, emphasizing its function as a key anti-inflammatory cytokine and immune homeostasis regulator.
