DDB1 and CUL4 associated factor 8 like 1 (DCAF8L1) is a paralog of DCAF8, sharing significant structural similarity through its WD40 repeats, which mediate interactions with the CUL4-DDB1 complex and potential substrates. While its specific biological roles are not well-characterized, DCAF8L1 is presumed to contribute to ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation, similar to other members of the DCAF family. It is expressed across multiple tissues, suggesting a general role in maintaining protein homeostasis. Functional studies are required to identify its specific targets and understand its involvement in cellular regulation. Its potential redundancy with DCAF8 highlights its importance in complex regulatory pathways, particularly in tissues where proteostasis is critical.
