Background

DDB1 and CUL4 associated factor 4 like 1 (DCAF4L1) is a paralog of DCAF4 that also functions as a substrate receptor for the CUL4-DDB1 E3 ubiquitin ligase complex. Like DCAF4, it contains WD40 repeat domains that allow it to interact with specific substrates and facilitate their ubiquitination. Although its functions are not yet fully characterized, DCAF4L1 is believed to share similar roles in protein turnover and cellular homeostasis. Its expression appears to be tissue-specific, suggesting potential specialization in certain physiological or developmental pathways. DCAF4L1 may also play a role in regulating transcriptional responses and DNA repair processes. Further studies are needed to determine its substrate targets and to elucidate how its activity contributes to cellular regulation and disease mechanisms, particularly in tissues where it is highly expressed.
