Descripción

ABCC13 (ATP-binding cassette subfamily C member 13) is a pseudogene in humans, meaning it is a non-functional member of the ABCC subfamily of transporters, which are involved in the transport of various molecules across membranes. Although initially thought to encode a functional protein, ABCC13 lacks significant expression and activity in humans due to multiple mutations and truncations. Functional orthologs are present in other species, suggesting its evolutionary role might have been conserved before pseudogenization in humans. ABCC family members typically participate in multidrug resistance and organic anion transport, but ABCC13’s role remains biologically silent. It has limited clinical significance in humans.
