Descripción
ANKRD27, also known as VPS9-ankyrin-repeat-containing protein (VARP), contains both ankyrin repeats and a VPS9 domain that facilitate its involvement in endosomal trafficking and protein sorting. ANKRD27 interacts with proteins like Rab GTPases, particularly Rab21 and Rab32, to regulate the transport of vesicles and intracellular protein localization. It plays critical roles in processes such as endocytosis, exocytosis, and autophagy, contributing to cellular organization and homeostasis. ANKRD27 is highly expressed in tissues with high metabolic activity, such as neurons, where it is essential for proper vesicle trafficking and synaptic function. Dysregulation of ANKRD27 has been implicated in neurodevelopmental disorders and certain cancers, where impaired protein sorting leads to cellular dysfunction. Its role in intracellular trafficking highlights its importance in maintaining protein homeostasis and signaling.
