ANKRD49 is a member of the ankyrin repeat protein family, characterized by its repeat domains that mediate protein-protein interactions in various biological processes. ANKRD49 is thought to play a role in nuclear functions, including chromatin organization and transcriptional regulation. It interacts with nuclear proteins and may regulate gene expression patterns that control cell growth, differentiation, and stress responses. Its function as a regulatory protein suggests a potential role in pathways that maintain genomic stability and cellular integrity. Dysregulation of ANKRD49 has been associated with developmental abnormalities and diseases where altered transcriptional activity contributes to pathogenesis, such as certain cancers.
