Descripción
ANGPTL2 is a secreted glycoprotein that belongs to the angiopoietin-like (ANGPTL) protein family and plays critical roles in inflammation, angiogenesis, and tissue remodeling. ANGPTL2 promotes endothelial cell activation, migration, and vascular permeability, facilitating angiogenesis during wound healing and tissue repair. However, persistent overexpression of ANGPTL2 leads to chronic inflammation and tissue damage, contributing to the development of metabolic disorders, such as obesity and insulin resistance, as well as cardiovascular diseases. ANGPTL2 also enhances cancer progression by promoting tumor angiogenesis, metastasis, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Elevated ANGPTL2 levels are observed in various cancers, including breast, lung, and colorectal cancers, where its activity correlates with poor prognosis. It serves as a biomarker for inflammatory and tumor-associated conditions, linking inflammation to disease pathology. ANGPTL2’s dual role in tissue regeneration and chronic inflammation highlights its significance as a potential therapeutic target in cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and inflammatory disorders.
