Background

The cutA divalent cation tolerance homolog (CUTA) is a highly conserved protein that plays a role in cellular tolerance to divalent metal cations, such as copper, zinc, and nickel. It is ubiquitously expressed in various tissues and is localized in both the cytoplasm and mitochondria, where it is thought to regulate metal ion homeostasis and protect cells from metal-induced toxicity.
