Gamma-glutamyltransferase 7 (GGT7) is another member of the gamma-glutamyltransferase enzyme family involved in the breakdown and recycling of glutathione, a critical molecule for antioxidant defense and detoxification pathways GGT7 is expressed in tissues such as the kidney, liver, and lungs, where it regulates the metabolism of gamma-glutamyl compounds, supporting amino acid transport and redox homeostasis Dysregulation of GGT7 activity has been associated with metabolic disorders, cardiovascular diseases, and cancers, where it contributes to oxidative stress and inflammation GGT7 is particularly relevant in tumor biology, where its role in glutathione metabolism supports cellular survival under oxidative stress conditions Elevated GGT7 expression has been linked to drug resistance in cancer cells by enhancing detoxification pathways Its emerging role in immune regulation and cellular stress responses highlights its importance in maintaining homeostasis under physiological and pathological conditions
