Descripción
Inactive glutathione hydrolase 2, pseudogene (GGT2P) represents a non-functional copy of the glutathione hydrolase gene, which lacks enzymatic activity due to mutations or deletions that render it inactive GGT2P is classified as a pseudogene and is thought to have originated through gene duplication events during evolution Although it does not encode an active protein, GGT2P can play a role in gene regulation by influencing the expression of functional gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT) family members through transcriptional interference or non-coding RNA production Emerging studies suggest pseudogenes like GGT2P may regulate cellular homeostasis under specific conditions such as oxidative stress or during cancer development where their dysregulation can impact glutathione metabolism and antioxidant pathways While GGT2P is not catalytically active, its existence underscores the evolutionary complexity of the GGT gene family and its potential regulatory role in health and disease
