Background

GABBR2 is the partner subunit of the GABA-B receptor, forming a functional heterodimer with GABBR1. While GABBR1 is responsible for ligand binding, GABBR2 facilitates G protein activation and downstream signaling. GABBR2 couples to Gi/o proteins, leading to the inhibition of adenylate cyclase, reduced cAMP levels, and the opening of potassium channels while inhibiting calcium channels.
