Background
GABARAPL1 is a member of the GABARAP (GABA-A receptor-associated protein) family, which plays a key role in intracellular trafficking, autophagy, and receptor regulation. It facilitates the transport and membrane localization of GABA-A receptors, contributing to inhibitory neurotransmission in the central nervous system. Beyond its role in neurotransmitter signaling, GABARAPL1 is a critical component of the autophagy machinery, interacting with ATG proteins to regulate autophagosome formation and cargo sequestration. It is involved in cellular homeostasis, protein degradation, and stress responses.
