Descripción

Cleavage stimulation factor subunit 2 tau variant (CSTF2T), also referred to as tauCstF-64, is a paralog of CSTF2 and functions in a tissue-specific manner, particularly in the germline. Unlike the ubiquitously expressed CSTF2, CSTF2T is primarily expressed in testis, particularly in pachytene spermatocytes and round spermatids, and is critical for spermatogenesis. It acts as a substitute for CSTF2 in male germ cells, ensuring the proper 3' end processing and polyadenylation of pre-mRNAs during meiosis. CSTF2T has a gene structure lacking introns, which may contribute to its tight regulation during spermatogenic development. Changes in CSTF2T expression have been linked to male infertility, as its deficiency disrupts germ cell-specific mRNA processing pathways required for proper sperm development. Research suggests that CSTF2T plays a role in maintaining RNA processing efficiency and alternative polyadenylation patterns necessary for male gamete formation and overall reproductive health.
