Description

WDFY4, also named as C10orf64 and KIAA1607, is a huge protein with unknown functions. WDFY4 is expressed predominantly in immune tissues such as lymph nodes, the spleen, the thymus and the tonsils. According to recent genome-wide association studies(GWAS), WDFY4 was introduced as novel predisposing genes for SLE(Systemic Lupus Erythematosus) which is a heterogeneous complex relapsing-remitting autoimmune disease. This antibody detects the C-terminal of WDFY4. The gene WDFY4 has some isoforms, 354 kDa, 73 kDa, 115 kDa, 353 kDa, 325 kDa.

Descripción

WD repeat and FYVE domain containing 4 (WDFY4), like WDFY3, is a protein that features WD repeats and a FYVE domain, which suggest its role in protein-protein interactions and endosomal trafficking. The FYVE domain in WDFY4 specifically binds phosphoinositides, a type of lipid critical for the regulation of vesicle trafficking and cellular membrane dynamics. Through its interaction with these lipids, WDFY4 is involved in the sorting of proteins within the endosomal system and the regulation of receptor recycling. This function is essential for maintaining proper cellular signaling, receptor downregulation, and protein degradation. WDFY4 also plays a role in regulating autophagy, a process crucial for maintaining cellular homeostasis by degrading and recycling damaged or unnecessary components. Moreover, WDFY4's involvement in immune function has been noted, with potential implications in diseases affecting immune responses and inflammatory processes. Given its critical role in vesicular trafficking and autophagy, disruptions in WDFY4's function could lead to disorders such as neurodegenerative diseases and autoimmune conditions. Understanding the full scope of WDFY4's role in cellular trafficking and immune regulation is essential for identifying novel therapeutic targets in related diseases.
