Description

PTX3, also named as TNFAIP5 and TSG14, is an acute phase glycoprotein that plays a role in the regulation of innate resistance to pathogens, inflammatory reactions, possibly clearance of self-components and female fertility. In WB, there're 2 major bands, an upper signal at 80-86 kDa and a lower signal at 42 kDa, representing PTX3 dimers and monomers, respectively(18223257).

Descripción

PTX3 is a long pentraxin and key component of the innate immune system involved in recognizing pathogens, regulating inflammation, and facilitating tissue repair PTX3 is produced by various cell types, including macrophages, neutrophils, and endothelial cells, in response to inflammatory stimuli such as IL-1β, TNF-α, and Toll-like receptor activation It acts as a soluble pattern recognition receptor (PRR), binding microbial components, such as fungal conidia, and activating complement pathways to enhance pathogen clearance PTX3 also regulates angiogenesis and extracellular matrix remodeling during tissue repair Elevated PTX3 levels are observed in conditions like sepsis, cardiovascular disease, and autoimmune disorders, where it acts as a biomarker for inflammation and disease progression PTX3 plays protective roles in infections, while dysregulated expression contributes to chronic inflammatory diseases, including atherosclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis, where it modulates both innate and adaptive immunity
