Background

Heparan sulfate proteoglycan 2 (HSPG2), also known as perlecan, is a significant component of the extracellular matrix (ECM) in many tissues, including basement membranes. HSPG2 plays a crucial role in various physiological processes such as cell adhesion, proliferation, differentiation, and migration. It is synthesized as a large multidomain protein and is extensively glycosylated. Perlecan is ubiquitous in the body, present in vascular endothelial cells, the central nervous system, skeletal muscle, and other tissues.
