Descripción
GNRHR2 is a paralog of GNRHR and a putative G protein-coupled receptor with structural similarity to the type 1 receptor (GNRHR). While GNRHR2 is functional in non-mammalian vertebrates, its role in humans remains controversial, as the gene is considered a pseudogene in some populations. However, evidence suggests that truncated or alternatively spliced variants of GNRHR2 may be expressed in human tissues, including the reproductive system, placenta, and certain tumors. GNRHR2 has been implicated in reproductive signaling and gonadotropin regulation, though its downstream signaling pathways and physiological relevance remain poorly characterized. Emerging studies indicate that GNRHR2 could play roles in regulating steroidogenesis, fertility, and tumor biology. Its expression in cancers, such as prostate and breast tumors, highlights its potential role in cell proliferation and survival. While the function of GNRHR2 in humans remains an active area of research, it holds promise for understanding reproductive signaling and its therapeutic implications in hormone-related diseases.
