Description
ANXA6, also called CBP68, or 67 kDa calelectrin, belongs to a family of calcium-dependent membrane and phospholipid binding proteins. Several members of the annexin family have been implicated in membrane-related events along exocytotic and endocytotic pathways. The annexin VI gene is approximately 60 kbp long and contains 26 exons. It encodes a protein of about 68 kDa that consists of eight 68-amino acid repeats separated by linking sequences of variable lengths. It is highly similar to human annexins I and II sequences, each of which contain four such repeats. Annexin VI has been implicated in mediating the endosome aggregation and vesicle fusion in secreting epithelia during exocytosis.

Descripción
ANXA6 is a calcium-dependent phospholipid-binding protein involved in membrane dynamics, endocytosis, and exocytosis. It is one of the largest annexins and interacts with components of the cytoskeleton and plasma membrane to regulate vesicle trafficking and cholesterol homeostasis. ANXA6 plays a role in calcium signaling, influencing the activation of ion channels and cellular processes such as cell adhesion, migration, and signal transduction. Its expression is elevated in certain cancers, including breast cancer, where it modulates cell proliferation and survival. ANXA6 also participates in immune responses and lipid metabolism, linking its dysregulation to cardiovascular diseases and metabolic disorders. Its versatile functions make it a critical player in maintaining cellular integrity under normal and stressed conditions.
