Description

Converts lysophosphatidic acid(LPA) into phosphatidic acid by incorporating an acyl moiety at the sn-2 position of the glycerol backbone. Acts on LPA containing saturated or unsaturated fatty acids C16:0-C20:4 at the sn-1 position using C18:1, C20:4 or C18:2-CoA as the acyl donor. Also acts on lysophosphatidylcholine, lysophosphatidylinositol and lysophosphatidylserine using C18:1 or C20:4-CoA(PubMed:21173190). Has a preference for arachidonoyl-CoA as a donor. Has also a modest lysophosphatidylinositol acyltransferase(LPIAT) activity, converts lysophosphatidylinositol(LPI) into phosphatidylinositol(By similarity).

Descripción

AGPAT3 is another member of the AGPAT family involved in the acylation of lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) to form phosphatidic acid (PA). Unlike AGPAT1 and AGPAT2, AGPAT3 has broader substrate specificity and is expressed in multiple tissues, including the liver, brain, and kidneys. It participates in the synthesis of various phospholipids, such as phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylethanolamine, which are essential for membrane biogenesis and cell signaling. AGPAT3 also plays a role in lipid remodeling and vesicle trafficking. Dysregulation of AGPAT3 has been associated with metabolic disorders, and emerging research suggests its potential involvement in neurological diseases and cancer due to its impact on membrane composition and signaling pathways.
