Descripción
ACBD3 is a multifunctional protein involved in lipid metabolism, vesicular trafficking, and organelle function. It contains an acyl-CoA binding domain, allowing it to interact with fatty acyl-CoA molecules and regulate lipid transport and metabolism. ACBD3 is also known for its role in maintaining Golgi apparatus integrity and functioning as an adaptor protein, facilitating interactions between Golgi membranes and other cellular components. It participates in steroidogenesis by supporting mitochondrial cholesterol trafficking, a critical step in steroid hormone synthesis. ACBD3’s interactions with viral proteins have been implicated in host-pathogen interactions, making it a target of interest in virology. Dysregulation of ACBD3 has been associated with Golgi fragmentation, disrupted lipid metabolism, and diseases such as cancer and neurodegenerative disorders.
