Background

ANKRD26 is a protein with ankyrin repeat domains that plays a role in hematopoiesis, the process of blood cell production. ANKRD26 is expressed in hematopoietic stem cells and progenitors, where it regulates cellular proliferation, differentiation, and survival. Mutations in ANKRD26 are associated with familial thrombocytopenia (THC2), a rare genetic disorder characterized by low platelet counts and an increased risk of myeloid malignancies such as acute myeloid leukemia (AML). ANKRD26 is believed to influence transcriptional regulation and cell signaling pathways that control blood cell development and homeostasis.
