Descripción

ANKRD2, also known as Arpp (ankyrin repeat protein with PEST domain), is a member of the muscle ankyrin repeat protein (MARP) family. It is predominantly expressed in skeletal and cardiac muscle, where it localizes to the nucleus and the sarcomere, linking mechanical stress signals to gene expression. ANKRD2 functions as a stress-response protein that regulates transcription in response to mechanical stretch, injury, or oxidative stress. It interacts with key sarcomeric proteins such as titin and myopalladin and participates in processes like muscle differentiation, maintenance, and repair. ANKRD2 is upregulated during muscle damage and various cardiomyopathies, suggesting a role in pathological remodeling. Dysregulation of ANKRD2 has been associated with muscular dystrophies, hypertrophy, and heart failure, where it acts as a molecular sensor that influences cellular survival pathways.
