Descripción
ANGPTL5 is a member of the angiopoietin-like protein family that is primarily expressed in adipose tissue and plays a role in lipid metabolism and energy regulation. ANGPTL5 is thought to act as an inhibitor of lipoprotein lipase (LPL), similar to other ANGPTL family members, and may regulate triglyceride levels in the bloodstream. Although ANGPTL5 is less characterized compared to ANGPTL3 and ANGPTL4, it is implicated in systemic energy homeostasis and metabolic adaptations under nutrient stress. Variants in the ANGPTL5 gene have been linked to plasma lipid levels, suggesting its involvement in regulating hypertriglyceridemia and other lipid-related metabolic conditions. Emerging studies suggest that ANGPTL5 may also influence angiogenic processes, but further research is needed to fully elucidate its role in vascular biology and metabolism.
