Descripción

ANGPT2 is a secreted protein that functions as a context-dependent antagonist or agonist of the Tie2 receptor, depending on cellular and environmental conditions. ANGPT2 disrupts ANGPT1-Tie2 signaling under inflammatory or angiogenic conditions, leading to increased vascular permeability, endothelial activation, and vessel destabilization. ANGPT2 is expressed primarily in the vasculature, where it facilitates vascular remodeling during angiogenesis, inflammation, and tissue repair. It plays a key role in pathological angiogenesis observed in cancer, where it promotes the formation of abnormal, leaky blood vessels that support tumor growth and metastasis. ANGPT2 also acts as a regulator of inflammatory responses by enhancing endothelial activation and leukocyte recruitment. Elevated ANGPT2 levels are associated with diseases such as sepsis, diabetic vascular complications, and cardiovascular diseases, where excessive vascular permeability and endothelial dysfunction occur. ANGPT2 serves as a biomarker for vascular injury and a potential therapeutic target for stabilizing blood vessels in pathological conditions.
